Equipment and controller interfaces built as applets run in modern browsers again.
CheerpJ runs plant and engineering Java clients in the browser, on terminals, thin clients and Chromebooks. The applications stay as they are, and the terminals need only a browser.
CheerpJ is a complete Java runtime, built from OpenJDK and compiled to WebAssembly. It runs your compiled applications as they are, including third-party and obfuscated code, on Java 8, 11, 17 and 21, with Java 25 in preview.
That includes Oracle applications with Java clients, such as Oracle E-Business Suite, the Agile PLM Java Client and Oracle Demantra, as well as other vendors’ applications and the ones your own developers built.

Supervisory, production and quality clients launched through Java Web Start open from a browser tab.
Swing and AWT tools for engineering, maintenance and planning run in the browser as they are.
Calculation and configuration code written in Java can be called from JavaScript in your web applications.
Users upload files to the application, and files it saves arrive as browser downloads.
The application prints through the browser.
Copy and paste work inside the application, and with other applications when you turn it on.
HTTP requests go through the browser. TCP and UDP connections go through Tailscale, with the control server on your own network.
Applications keep their multiple windows, and their keyboard shortcuts pass through the browser.
Applications play sound through the browser.
CheerpJ is a set of static files you host on your own web servers, including on segregated and air-gapped networks.
The application runs inside the browser’s sandbox, under the same security model as your other web applications, and reaches files and the network only through browser APIs and their permissions.
You update CheerpJ and the application on your servers, and staff get the new version the next time they open it.
The browser extensions take a licence token that activates offline, so a deployment can stay entirely inside your network.
How CF Fertilisers took Java and IE mode off every user computer at its UK and US sites, and kept Oracle E-Business Suite running.
CF Fertilisers runs Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.3, which launched as an applet in IE mode on Java 8u311. It removed Java from all user computers at its UK and US sites, deploying CheerpJ through Group Policy and Intune from a custom store we host. Users reported faster logins.
